25% of all profits will go to EmbraceRace

“At EmbraceRace, we identify, organize – and, as needed, create – the tools, resources, discussion spaces, and networks we need to meet 4 goals:
  • Nurture resilience in children of color
  • Nurture inclusive, empathetic children of all stripes
  • Raise kids who think critically about racial inequity
  • Support a movement of kid and adult racial justice advocates for all children”

25% of all profits will go to M4BL (The Movement for Black Lives)

"The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) seeks to reach millions, mobilize hundreds of thousands, and organize tens of thousands, so that Black political power is a force able to influence national and local agendas in the direction of our shared Vision for Black Lives."

A portion of profits will also go to pay the mentors of color working with me

What is race conscious parenting?

It is deliberately educating children about race and racism and about how those concepts and systems show up in our lives and in society. It challenges teaching colorblindness and goes beyond multicultural (or valuing diversity) approaches.

Teaching colorblindness doesn’t work, and multiculturalism, while an improvement, still falls short. Neither approach will help white children resist and disrupt racism. Neither will help white children become dedicated to standing up for racial justice.

There are many blogs, articles, books, workshops, and seminars that white caregivers and educators can take advantage of to learn about race conscious parenting. After reviewing some of these resources, you may still feel the need for individual education and guidance. I offer individual sessions to teach race conscious parenting, customized to the age of your children. Even if you are still in the family planning stage, there is a lot you can do to cultivate an anti-racist curriculum as part of the moral education you will undoubtedly be giving your future children.

I also offer small group seminars. These work best when couples or individuals with similar-aged children attend together. Useful age categories are: Birth (or pre-birth) to Kindergarten, Grade School, Middle School, and High School.

If you want to educate your children about race but feel that your anxiety or discomfort is a significant obstacle, then you may want to consider scheduling some individual coaching sessions first.

We all want the best for our children, and we try hard to give them every opportunity to succeed. We would never intentionally handicap them, but when we ignore race and racism, when we teach lofty ideals without equipping our children to navigate the real world, they are handicapped. Black and brown children are equipped for a racially unjust society. Their parents have been practicing race conscious parenting for centuries. White children, generally speaking, are not prepared. Let’s change that. Let’s step up. Let’s do it now.

What is Anti-Racism Coaching?

Anti-racism coaching is you and me, looking at each other, talking together about white supremacy and internalized racial bias. It’s you being vulnerable and me holding that vulnerability with respect. It’s you sharing your story, your expertise. It’s my experience and training. It’s me challenging you. It’s you showing courage.

We will spend 60 minutes with each other pulling on the threads of the tightly-woven fabric of systemic racism. It will be uncomfortable at times. Examining thoughts, feelings, and behaviors about something we’ve been trained to suppress, deflect, or defend is uncomfortable. And that’s okay. We’re going to do it anyway. No excuse can be justified because the need for us to do the work is too desperate. We must remove all barriers to action, so let’s get to it.
