ALIYAH AZIZA OGBUE'


Aliyah Ogbue' is a poet, writer, artist, wife, mother and grandmother whose passion lives within the powerful, meaningful, life changing connections created through bonds of authentic, spiritual and personal human relationships.

She travels internationally, teaching and serving in the villages of Nigeria, West Africa, and is currently engaged in a project in the village of Issele-Uku, to erect a Baha'i Learning Center there, while forging new bonds of friendship and healthy work relationships. She currently lives in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Meta is the founder of Story Medicine Worldwide. She is a graduate of Goddard College. Her community-based healing work focused on domestic violence prevention. Blending her study and work, she demonstrates story as medicine. She is an award winning writer, performer and seasoned teacher originally from Chicago, living in North Carolina since 2009.

With story medicine, Meta empowers her students both through UNCA’s Great Smokies Writing Program, and as an independent scholar. She is the author of several books, including Landscapes of Abuse (2001), Rainsongs: Poems of a Woman’s Life (2012), her novel The Mending Time (2014), Womaning, her forthcoming memoir, and her second poetry collection, Blues Doula, poems by Meta Commerse (2019).

Co founder and Program Director of the Race Story ReWrite Project. I am an author, speaker and workshop leader. My book is entitled Seeing Heaven in the Face of Black Men and my passion is supporting black people in seeing heaven (beauty, dignity, nobility etc.) in themselves and each other. In doing so we will lift each other up and strengthen our capacity to serve our families and communities and also to play our role in the transformation of this country.

Gene Unterschuetz

Gene has been researching the dynamics of racial conditioning for the past 30 years. He is the co-author of Longing: Stories of Racial Healing. He has a BA in psychology and an MA in studio art. He is inspired by using the arts to help people make positive value choices and develop their authentic identity.
